The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team had its best defensive outing of the season in an 81-38 thumping of Eureka JV on Monday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- Sandburg used a 16-3 spurt to build a 24-8 lead in the first half, and the Chargers (8-3) took a 42-26 lead into the locker room.
- The Chargers scored 10 of the first 12 to open the second half, then added a 22-0 run later in the period to go ahead 74-30, their largest lead of the game.

Sophomore forward Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) had a game-high 21 points on 10-for-14 shooting and added seven rebounds.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Elias Akale (Ashdad, Israel/Mekif Tet) scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench.
- Freshman guard Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) scored 13 on 6-of-12 shooting.
- Freshman Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) had game highs of 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Kyler Stork scored 16 on 7 of 10 shots to lead Eureka JV.
NOTABLES
Eureka’s 38 points were the fewest for a Sandburg opponent this season. … The Chargers picked up their sixth win in the last seven games. … Sandburg outrebounded the Red Devils 44-23 and had 12 offensive rebounds. … Every player had at least one field goal for Sandburg except starting guard Nick Hanner (Athens, Ill./Athens), who did not attempt a shot.
